They were fishing just southwest of the bluffs in 14-knot winds, which are expected to pick up this weekend, forcing the Coastside Fishing Club to postpone its annual salmon derby by one week.īut it was just about flat calm on Saturday, when high-tech writer Linda McCarthy of Fairfax nailed a couple plump salmon off Bodgea. The Salty Lady checked in with 15 salmon. Outer Limits skipper Jimmy Robertson was still fishing at 1 p.m., but reported his crew of 20 had 26 salmon to 25 pounds. “The fish are definitely getting bigger,” he said. The wind was brisk, but the fishing excellent off Point Reyes on Thursday, as New Rayann skipper Johnny “Fresh” Atkinson breezed home with 16 hefty limits, 32 salmon to 26 pounds. “The shiners get the bigger fish,” he said. “The size of the fish is unbelievable,” he said, adding his crew “has not seen a fish under 18 pounds.” On Sunday, he took four anglers out and hooked four halibut from 18 to 26 pounds, as well as four stripers. Expect to catch about a fish or so a rod, he said. Barry Canevaro, who runs a six-pack charter on his Fishin’ Fool IV based in Richmond, called the halibut fishing “very decent,” with big fish dominating the mix.
